Private protection
What does a cyber bodyguard do?
A practical guide to human-led cyber protection for individuals and families in Pakistan, including scope, responsibilities and what to ask before engaging.
A relationship around personal digital risk
A cyber bodyguard is a human-led protection service for a person's digital life. It is not an app, a physical escort or someone who takes unrestricted control of your accounts. The useful distinction is continuity: the person helping you understands which accounts matter, who depends on them and what a change in exposure could mean.
In Pakistan, a founder's personal messaging account may connect work, relatives and household arrangements. An employer might protect the work laptop while having no responsibility for a family tablet, private email or home router. The gap between those environments is where a personal protection relationship can be useful.
Start with what a compromise would affect
A sensible first conversation does not begin by requesting every password. It establishes the consequences you want to avoid. Would loss of an email account block recovery elsewhere? Could an impersonated message reach relatives who trust your name? Does public information reveal a routine you would rather keep private?
Turn those concerns into priorities. A household with many shared devices may need clearer ownership and access arrangements. A person facing unwanted public attention may need an exposure review. Someone recovering from an incident may first need containment and provider-assisted recovery. The assessment should explain the reasoning behind its recommendations.
What the work can include
An agreed scope can cover account access and recovery settings, device configuration, personal communications, home networks, public information and guidance for family members. The point is to connect the safeguards. Adding a stronger login method is less useful if its recovery email is weak or nobody can find the recovery information when it is needed.
Ongoing work can include scheduled reviews, advice when circumstances change and a plan for reporting suspicious activity. Monitoring coverage, contact channels and response arrangements must be stated in the agreement. The term cyber bodyguard does not, by itself, promise continuous availability or observation of everything you do.
Keep responsibility and access clear
Ask who will perform the work, what access is needed and how it will be withdrawn. A provider should be able to distinguish recommendations, changes made with your permission and decisions that remain yours. Household members need their own boundaries; protecting a family does not justify reading every private conversation.
An employer-managed device introduces another boundary. Personal support should not bypass the employer's rules or take control without permission. Likewise, account platforms decide their own recovery and removal outcomes. An adviser can help navigate those processes but cannot promise that a provider will restore an account or remove a particular page.
Questions worth asking before engagement
Ask for a clear scope, communication arrangements and an explanation of how sensitive information will be exchanged. Establish who holds recovery material, how changes are documented and what happens when the engagement ends. Discuss fees and availability before assuming a particular level of support.
Use a concrete scenario: a relative receives an urgent request apparently from you while you are travelling. Who verifies the request, what account is checked first and how is the incident reported? A useful answer will describe an agreed process, not a claim that compromise is impossible.
How to begin with CyberImperials
Start with a short description of the concern and your preferred contact method. Do not include passwords, recovery codes, identity documents or evidence containing other people's private information. The first conversation helps establish whether the service is appropriate; it does not automatically start an engagement.
CyberImperials provides private cybersecurity for clients across Pakistan. The ongoing relationship is shaped around the person's circumstances and agreed responsibilities. A clear, manageable plan is more valuable than a long list of tools that nobody understands or maintains.
